The canton of Glarus may be small, but it has big land reserves - and they're in the middle of a green landscape and only three-quarters of an hour from Zurich. Prices for land and real estate are comparatively low. An average single-family home in Mollis costs between 17 and 20 percent less than in the St. Gallen townships of Benken and Schänis and up to 37 percent less than in the Schwyz townships of Tuggen and Wangen. Rents are similarly affordable and much lower than in and around Zurich.
