The Ostschweizerische Bürgschaftsgenossenschaft grants promising small- and medium-sized business sureties, guarantees, or securities to help companies get simple bank loans. In 2009, the OBTG supported 360 companies in the cantons of Aargau, Appenzell-Innerrhoden, Appenzell-Ausserrhoden, Glarus, Grisons, Lucerne, Nidwalden, Obwalden, St. Gallen, Schaffhausen, Schwyz, Thurgau, Ticino, Uri, Zug and Zurich. Nine of these were in Glarnerland. The OBTG acts as a guarantor for loans used for

  • taking over business operations or transitioning to independence,
  • purchasing real estate to secure a location,
  • building or expanding business properties,
  • financing machinery, installations, warehouses or working capital,
  • rationalisation measures or
  • shareholding in existing small- and medium-sized businesses.
