Glarnerland has various climbing crags with trails of different degrees of difficulty. A good overview organised by region is available in the Kletterführer Glarner Alpen.

Braunwald has a challenging fixed rope route – along with a fixed rope route for children, families and beginners – that leads over Eggstöcke north of Braunwald. The three sections are different degrees of difficulty, the first being the easiest, the last the most difficult. From Berggasthaus Gumen (at 1,901 metres above sea level), the duration is 2 to 4 hours for the first section, 4 to 6 hours for the first and second sections, and 6 to 8 hours for all three.

If you want to climb in bad weather, Näfels has a lovely indoor rock climbing centre. Admission is CHF 9 (children) or CHF 20 (adults), groups from ten persons pay CHF 7 or 16 per person. Rope, belt with safety carabiner and shoes can be rented. The climbing school offers taster courses, basic courses, and climbing training.
