Excursion Tips

Ausflugstipps Sommer

Who knows Glarnerland best? Naturally the locals. We asked them what their favourite destinations are in summer. These are the local favourites: :

  • High rope course in Kerenzerberg: Adventure and fun for big and small at 12 to 18 feet high. Cross rope bridges and rickety crossbars or balance on a narrow tree trunk. Then whiz through the air along a 125 metre funicular and land safely on solid ground.
  • Rambling in a wild animal preserve: The walk on the wild side through the pass leads through the oldest wild animal reserve in Europe, Freiberg Kärpf. The walk from Mettmen through Wildmadfurggeli to Ämpächli takes 4 to 5 hours. From here, the cable car goes down to Elm.
  • Rambling with children: The way around the Mettmensee is accessible to prams and wheelchairs. If you are travelling with older children, you can walk from the Mettmenalp to the Legler hut and stay the night there at 2273 metres above sea level. The pleasant walk takes about 2.5 hours.
  • Bathing at Klöntalersee: If it gets really hot, there's nothing better than cooling off and refreshing yourself at Klöntalersee. Many consider it to be one of the most beautiful of the Swiss lakes.
  • Rambling at Walensee: The ramble from Weesen to Betlis, Quinten, Au and Walenstadtberg to Walenstadt Hafen takes a good 5 hours. Only the last stage – up to Walenstadtberg and down again – isn't level. After the walk, take the ship back to Weesen.
  • Guided tours: Kulturaktiv organises city tours in Glarus and culture tours in Glarnerland.
  • Industriespionage: Several Glarner companies open exclusivly for visitors their production and service site to see behind the scenes. More informations you will find under www.industriespionage.ch
