Ice Skating


The artificial skating rink in Buchholz in Glarus is open from end of October to end of February on

  • Mondays from 09:00 to 16:30,
  • Tuesdays from 09:00 to 16:30,
  • Wednesdays from 09:00 to 22:00 (starting on 1 February to 19:45),
  • Thursdays from 09:00 to 16:30,
  • Fridays from 09:00 to 22:00,
  • Saturdays from 12:15 to 16:30 and
  • Sundays from 10:15 to 16:30.

Ice skates can be rented for CHF 3.50 (children) or CHF 7.50 (adults), plus a CHF 20 deposit. Admission costs CHF 3.50 to 5.50 and there are good value 12-session cards (CHF 35 to 55) and season tickets (CHF 75 to 135). 

When it's really cold, the Klöntalersee freezes. If the ice is thick enough and can bear people, the surface is opened. The officers in charge at the storage power plant in Klöntal check the ice and decide whether skating is permitted.
