Excursion Tips

Who knows Glarnerland best? Naturally the locals. We asked them what their favourite trip destinations are in the winter. These are the local favourites:

  • Snowshoeing tour: Weissenberge ob Matt is the sun terrace of Glarnerland. The most beautiful tracks begin in front of the door and lead out into the untouched snowy landscape. Anyone can snowshoe; you can rent the shoes at various places such as by the funicular.
  • Evening sledding: Elm's sledding route is four kilometres long. The journey from the mountain station down takes 20 minutes. If snow conditions are good, the slope is lit up for evening sledding on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. If you don't have a sled, you can rent one at the station.
  • Winter walks: The panorama track in Braunwald from Grotzenbüel to Gumen and back (9 kilometres, 700 meter altitude difference, 4 hours) is even more impressive in winter. The highlight is the cliff gallery between Gumen and Seblengrat, where fantastic ice formations are shaped out of stalagmites and stalactites.
  • Health at Wellness uf em Gufel: Relax your body and soul in a heated larch-wood tub high above Engi and enjoy the impressive panorama of Sernftal, Tschingelhörner, Martinsloch and Vorab. Afterward, you can refresh yourself with a fondue or raclette at the homey Alpstübli.
